Zoodochos Pigi

The Mother of Christ as Life-Giving Source is an epithet of the Theotokos. It began to be used with the revelation of a holy spring in Balukli, Constantinople by the Virgin Mary to a soldier named Leo Markels, who later became the Byzantine Emperor Leo I (457-474). The Life-giving Spring is celebrated on Easter Friday in the Orthodox Church.
